Samos 2013 Summit Scope and Objectives

The 4th Samos Summit, on Digital Innovation for Government, Business and Society offers an unprecedented opportunity to see, interact with and influence cutting-edge European ICT research projects and initiatives.  Attended by high caliber experts from research, administrations and enterprises, the Samos 2013 Summit focuses on the newest developments of Information and Communication Technologies and innovative applications in the context of the public and private sector.

The Samos 2013 Summit is co-organised by the University of Aegean, the Greek Interoperability Centre of the National Technical University of Athens, the ENGAGE eInfrastructures project on Open Data, the NOMAD and PADGETS projects on Social Media policy making (co-funded by the European Commission).

The Samos 2013 Summit is held in Doryssa Hotel, in Pythagorion, Samos on 1st – 3rd July 2013. 

In conjunction with this year’s Summit, the Summer School on Open andCollaborative Governance from 1st – 6th July in Doryssa Hotel, offers the possibility to younger members of the research community to enjoy tutorials, project workshops and experts panels on how ICT transforms governance and policy making.

1st Session: Opening, Digital Innovation from FP7 to Horizon 2020
Hosts, Administration Representatives, EC representatives
The opening session of Samos Summit provides an overview of the current research activities in the areas of digital innovation for governments and businesses, while also giving the trends towards the Horizon 2020 research programme

2nd Session: Data-driven Innovation
ENGAGE project on open data, open and big data experts
The session focuses on the trends and perspectives around open, big and linked data both from a managerial and a technical viewpoint.  Participants will have the chance to see the newest developments in European open data projects and share their views on the future trends in the information management domain
WORKSHOP: The Engage Open Data Platform
A workshop organized by the ENGAGE project, for analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the newly launched open data e-infrastructure. Demonstration and discussion on the needed features and the challenges for open data platforms

3rd Session: Innovation in Governance and Policy Modelling
PADGETS, NOMAD, ARCOMEM projects, policy modelling experts
Focusing on recent developments in ICT for Governance, this session provides viewpoints from research and development in areas such as social media for governance, opinion mining and sentiment analysis, societal simulation and advanced electronic participation experiments within societies

4th Session: Citizen-driven Innovation
CITADEL on the move, EPIC, OURSPACE, NET-EU CEN projects
This session provides an overview of citizen-driven initiatives and research projects, including participative service creation, crowdsourcing, collective awareness platforms and citizen-centric approaches for electronic governance. Experts will have the chance to discuss on current and oncoming European, Regional and National level initiatives.

5th Session : Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Digital Business Innovation projects, Factory of the Future and ICT Startups
Presenting the main research trends and innovative models and applications in the area of the enterprise, this session includes demonstrations of recent research results in digital business innovation and young entrepreneurship.  Experts will have the chance see and discuss the next research roadmap of future internet enterprise systems  
WORKSHOP : ICT-driven public sector innovation
Presentation of the new roadmap for ICT-driven public sector innovation and discussion with participants on the new directions, towards Horizon 2020

6th Session: Legal, security and trust issues
LAPSI project, ANIKETOS project, security and trust experts
This session provides up-to date information on legal, security and trust issues in digital public services.  Presentations and discussion on threats and vulnerabilities mitigation, leading to secure development of trustworthy composable services.
