Scope and Objectives

The 8th Samos Summit on ICT-enabled Governance offers an unprecedented opportunity to see, interact with and influence cutting-edge Information and Communication Technologies research projects and initiatives. Attended by high caliber experts from research, administrations and enterprises worldwide, the Samos 2018 Summit focuses on the newest developments of ICT applications in the areas of digital governance, under the main headline 

Government 3.0 
Defining the next-generation of ICT-enabled governance

Specific focus in this year’s summit will be given to the following areas of ICT-enabled governance, aiming at delivering high level insights on the new roadmap for research and practice:

  • New technological evolutions in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Distibuted Ledger Technologies, Bots and Agents, Data Mining, Internet of Services and Things, and more.
  • New models and tools for advanced decision support in public policy making,  based on Big Open Data acquisition and processing, combining multiple forms of information
  • Smart Governance examples from all levels of public administration, especially combining societal citizens' knowledge and effort with information systems 

  • New epistemological approaches for the main elements of Government 3.0, such as ontological resources and definitions, neighboring scientific domains, taxonomies of research topics, training curricula, future roadmaps and foresights

Call for contributions

You may state your idea or intention to take part in one or more of the following ways:
  • A extended abstract of an unpublished research paper, on one or more of the key subjects of the Summit, (typically 2000 words + pictures). Academic paper proposals will be invited to form a Special Issue in a well established Journal.
  • An on-site presentation on one the subjects of the Summit (typically 20 minutes, via slides). Usually a presentation based on a new approach, an innovative project or a research outcome. 
  • A presentation via skype (10 minutes, slides), as above.  Skype presentations are limited to one per session.
  • A position statement at a workshop (5 minutes, talk/slide), in any of the workshops that are in the agenda. 
  • Organisation of a new workshop (45 or 90 minutes), on one of the key topics.
  • A hands-on session or tutorial at the summer school (60 minutes, slides/systems). Expect classes of 10-15 students, each with laptop and mobile device.

Organisation and Fees 
The 8th Samos Summit will be held at Karlovassi, Samos, Greece, co-organised by the University of the Aegean / Information Systems Laboratory and the Government 3.0 Project, funded by the European Commission. Samos Summit is a collaborative, non-for-profit event. 

Registration fees are as following:

Samos Summit Participant - member of Government 3.0 Project

Free / included in the project mobility budget

Summer School Participant (student)
(includes access to the conference venue, welcome reception, lunches and coffee for six days, two dinners, electronic proceedings, certificate of attendance, school bag, badge)
300 Euro

Summer School Participant with Stay (student) 
(includes access to the conference venue, welcome reception, lunches and coffee for five days, two dinners, electronic proceedings, certificate of attendance, school bag, badge, six nights at the students house / private single room with bathroom)
450 Euro

Summer School Participant (University of the Aegean Student)
(includes access to the conference venue, welcome reception, lunches and coffee for six days,  electronic proceedings, certificate of attendance, school bag, badge)
100 Euro / subsidised by the University of the Aegean

Summer School Participant - Supported Student 
There are  limited positions for supporting the fee costs for excellent, low income students.
